For my first review on this blog I'll do an album I am familiar with, next review will be something a bit more mainstream after I listen to the album a bit more, anyway enjoy last.fm link provided at the end of the post
What is there to say about a legendary band like Fates Warning? More importantly Alder-era Fates Warning? How can they improve after A Pleasant Shade Of Gray? Why does the album art create a twisted feeling of intrigue and oddity?
Disconnected Fates Warning's 9th album is phenomenal from start to finish, it is dark, touching, flows, and contains no filler whatsoever (which is always a plus). It is on par and some would say better than their previous album, taking that same refined and perfect sound and using it perfectly to create another album that is not one song and a bit more dark. All the instrumentation is fantastic with Moore's keyboards being the most unique and spooky parts of the album. Alder's vocals are like always fantastic and perfect same for Zonder's drumming, Vera's bass, and Matheos' guitar. Track by track does not work well for this album it is perfect from start to finish with the best track being Still Remains (which the bass still cripples the back of my mind when I hear it). While So is equally as fantastic a choice, this album is essential for all Prog. Metal fans or Prog. fans in general. If you are new to the genre that is okay because this album acts as a fantastic introduction to the genre and the band, highly recommended and critically acclaimed by MA and PA alike.
